Best of the West Tourney Tomorrow

Nope, I am not entering in the tourney, but I will be taking pictures for my friends over at Grappletv.com. Actually, it has been quite a while since I have attended a tourney. I was, at one time, a frequent spectator (and even a competitor sometimes), but work related responsibilities eventually put a halt to my hobbyist pursuits. Oh well, sometimes it just works out that way.

Anywayzzzz.....getting involved with a tournament is always a huge positive for those who are looking to increase their skill level. This does not automatically mean you have to win or even compete. Just being around the positive environment of a competitive tournament can motivate a person to improve their game. In other words, competitions can act as great motivators for performance and they should be supported.

returning to the game

I am returning to the game. Ok, maybe this would be somewhat more important to people if they were reading about the return from retirement of a world champion or famous name on the grappling circuit. As much as I wish I could claim such a mantle, I can not. All that I am is a mere hobbyist....but what a hobbyist I am. Basically, for an extended period of time, I essentially centered my entire life around my pursuit of jiu jitsu and submission wrestling excellence. Not a bad way to kill time would you say?

Erik Paulson's Armbar Series

Erik Paulson's instructional videos are solidly in my top ranking for best instructional tapes on the market. In the mid/late 1990's, he exploded on the scene with the legendary KILLER LEGLOCKS series, a series which opened many people's eyes to this seldom looked at area of grappling submissions. In recent times, Paulson has released a very WMA Video style 6 volume DVD series on the subject of armbars. Honestly, I had thought I had seen all there is to know about the subject, but Paulson REALLY delivers the goods with an awesome DVD series that provides some incredible tips and insights into the straight armlock.
