Word of Advice Regarding the Upa
Another area of advice regarding the upa centers on the trapping of the opponents leg with your foot from the bottom of the mount. This was an old school method of escaping that centered in the notion that trapping the leg keeps the opponent from posting the leg and stabilizing himself from being rolled. Keep in mind, when a person's leg is trapped the trapping of the leg does not automatically mean that they can not post their leg. In fact, it may not stop them at all and they will post their leg while tangling up their opponent's leg. This can prove disastrous as a serious knee injury can result. Needless to say, this old method of trapping the leg while doing the upa should be avoided.
