Going to your knees
Nah...this isn't about going to your knees and praying that you don't get choked out..again. This is about one of the most misunderstood escapes in the jiu jitsu game. Basically, the reason that you go to your knees is to avoid getting pinned in side control or to escape from a side control pin. In a competition match, going to your knees denies your opponent the ability to gain three points to a guard pass.
Now, if you are one of those folks who tries to put people in your guard, but they are passing your guard with ease. Here's a way out of that...as you elbow escape and your opponent seeks to counter your elbow escape WITH COMMITMENT (ie...your elbow escape will work if he doesn't counter) then you should pull the wool over his eyes and go to your knees, Give it a shot.
